Tobey Maguire perfectly played the shy Peter Parker, while at the same time transforming himself into a real-life comic book superhero. Maguire trained heavily for the role, incorporating gymnastics, yoga, martial arts, and weight training. Give some credit to director Sam Raimi for choosing Maguire for the part. James Franco, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Freddie Prinze Jr. were also considered to play the role of Spider-Man.

Capitalizing on his Spider-Man success, Tobey Maguire starred in Sea Biscuit next. Maguire reportedly earned $12.5 million for that picture. Spider-Man® 2 netted the vegetarian actor another $12.5 million. Next up for Tobey: The Good German and Tokyo Suckerpunch, followed by Spider-Man® 3, of course.
